The Telangana citizens might have to brace themselves for the worst ever summer of the decade, with all avenues for power availability or acquisition gradually being shut down, for the newly formed State. The four-hour shutdown may eventually go up to six hours or more in the city from April next, when the rabi operations get into full swing, officials say. Power supply for agriculture too may be affected in a big way.


In a significant development towards making Visakhapatnam IT capital of Andhra Pradesh, Tech Mahindra has been allotted 10 acres on Hill No. 3 of Rushikonda in Madhurawada IT SEZ to set up its second campus in the city.

President Pranab Mukherjee has authorised Vigilance Commissioner Rajiv to act as Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) until a regular appointment is made. Rajiv, former Director-General, Central Industrial Security Force, took over the responsibility on September 29, a day after Pradeep Kumar completed his tenure. Mr. Kumar took over as the CVC in July 2011.


After a successful debut in 2014, Jaipur BookMark (JBM), an international publishing event, will be hosted in the Pink City in January next year along with the Jaipur Literature Festival. NASA’s Cassini spacecraft is closely monitoring the evolution of a mysterious feature in a large hydrocarbon sea on Saturn’s moon Titan. The enigmatic feature, which appears bright in radar images against the dark background of the liquid sea, was first spotted during Cassini’s July 2013 Titan flyby.


A Myanmar Buddhist monk and a Sri Lankan ultranationalist, both known for campaigning against Muslims have formally signed an agreement to work together to protect Buddhism. Ashin Wirathu leads the fundamentalist 969 movement that has been accused of instigating deadly violence against minority Muslims in Myanmar. He was a special invitee on Sunday at a rally of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), or Buddhist Power Force, which claims minority Muslims are trying to take over Sri Lanka by having more children, marrying Buddhist women and taking over businesses.

Tata Motors on Monday appointed Mayank Pareek as President of its passenger vehicle (PV) business. A statement from the company said he would take over on October 1 from Ranjit Yadav, who will now head the international business for Passenger & Commercial Vehicles for the company. Mr. Pareek will also be a member of the Corporate Steering Committee of Tata Motors. He was earlier with Maruti Suzuki India for over two decades.


Just a few days ago, Vikas Gowda was not even sure of coming here for the 17th Asian Games. He had injured his shoulder while lifting weights at his training base in the US and was thinking of cancelling the trip. On Tuesday night, despite not being fully fit, Gowda managed a silver in the men’s discus at the Asiad main stadium here. Iran’s Ehsan Hadadi, the London Olympic silver medallist and Asian record holder, won the gold with a best effort 65.11m to complete a hat-trick of triumphs at these continental Games.



Maruti Suzuki India, on Tuesday, said it had recalled 69,555 vehicles, which includes Dzire, Swift and Ritz models, manufactured between March 8, 2010, and August 11, 2013, to repair wiring harness fitment.
